The interface of WinCC is designed to be intuitive and user-friendly, with a range of features and tools to help you create and manage your HMI projects.
Here is a brief overview of the main components of the WinCC interface:
- Project Navigator: The Project Navigator is the main navigation tool in WinCC. It allows you to navigate through your HMI project, view the various screens and objects, and make changes as needed.
- Screen Editor: The Screen Editor is where you create and edit the graphical user interface for your HMI project. This is where you can add buttons, labels, and other interactive elements to your screens.
- Graphics Designer: The Graphics Designer allows you to create and edit graphical elements for your HMI project, such as images, animations, and icons.
- Tag Management: The Tag Management tool allows you to create and manage tags, which are used to link HMI elements to the PLC. This is an important feature for ensuring that your HMI and PLC are properly synchronized.
- Alarm Logging: The Alarm Logging feature allows you to monitor and log alarms in your HMI project. This is useful for troubleshooting and identifying issues in your automation equipment.

Menu bar
With the menu bar, you can activate the following functions:
- “File > Exit”: Exit Configuration Studio.
- “Edit > Copy”: Copy selected data.

- “Edit > Import”: Import data records Additional information on importing data records is available under Importing data records.
- “Edit > Export”: Export data records Additional information on importing data records is available under Exporting data records.
- “View > Input language”: Switch the input language. You are offered all languages available on your system in a selection menu. Additional information on configuring multilingual projects is available under Language support in WinCC.
- “View > Color scheme”: Change the color scheme of the Configuration Studio.

- “? > Info about WinCC Configuration Studio”: Information on version and msystem.
Fast search in data area
Use the “Search (Find)” field to look for entries in the data area. If one or more fields were selected in the data area, the search is limited to the selected fields. For additional information on fast search.
Navigation area
The objects of the selected editor or the selected function are displayed in the navigation area as tree view. The structure of the tree view includes all elements that are displayed in the data area.
Data area
The data area consists of a table view that you will be familiar with from spreadsheet programs. The data records of the selected editor or the selected function are configured in the data area.
