MATLAB (MATrix LABoratory) is a programming language and platform used by engineers and scientists to perform computational tasks such as matrix and array calculations, plotting of data, and numerical simulations. It is used in a wide range of industries, including engineering, finance, and research
MATLAB is a high-performance language for technical computing. It integrates computation, visualization, and programming in an easy-to-use environment where problems and solutions are expressed in familiar mathematical notation.
Typical uses include:
- Math and computation
- Algorithm development
- Modeling, simulation, and prototyping
- Data analysis, exploration, and visualization
- Scientific and engineering graphics
- Application development, including Graphical User Interface building
MATLAB is an interactive system whose basic data element is an array that does not require dimensioning. This allows you to solve many technical computing problems, especially those with matrix and vector formulations, in a fraction of the time it would take to write a program in a scalar noninteractive language such as C or Fortran.
The name MAT LAB stands for matrix laboratory. MAT LAB was originally written to provide easy access to matrix software developed by the LINPACK and EISPACK projects, which together represent the state-of-the-art in software for matrix computation.
MAT LAB has evolved over a period of years with input from many users. In university environments, it is the standard instructional tool for introductory and advanced courses in mathematics, engineering, and science. In industry, MAT LAB is the tool of choice for high-productivity research, development, and analysis.
MAT LAB features a family of application-specific solutions called toolboxes. Very important to most users of MAT LAB, toolboxes allow you to learn and apply specialized technology. Toolboxes are comprehensive collections of MA TLAB functions (M-files) that extend the MAT LAB environment to solve particular classes of problems. Areas in which toolboxes are available include signal processing, control systems, neural networks, fuzzy logic, wavelets, simulation, and many others.
System Requirements
Minimum system requirements for installing and running MATLAB:
- Operating System: Windows, macOS, or Linux
- Processor: Any 64-bit Intel or AMD processor
- RAM: 4 GB or more (8 GB recommended)
- Hard Disk Space: At least 20 GB of free space for MAT LAB only, with an additional 4-6 GB required for typical installation
- Display: A GPU with OpenGL 3.3 or higher is recommended for best performance and visualization
- Other: A working C/C++ compiler is required for building some of the built-in functions and libraries. An Internet connection is required for activation and online use.
MatLab Versions:-
MathWorks releases new versions of MATLAB on a regular basis, typically once a year. Here are some of the major versions that have been released:
- MATLAB R2019b: This rendition presented a few new elements, including live scripts that permit clients to make intuitive records that consolidate code, message, and perceptions, and further developed execution for profound learning applications.
- MATLAB R2020a: Support for MATL AB code development and deployment on cloud platforms like Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services was added in this version. Additionally, it included brand-new functions for signal processing, machine learning, and data analysis.
- MATLAB R2020b: New functions for joining, grouping, and sorting tables were included in this version, which added new capabilities for working with data in table format. Additionally, it included support for MATL AB-based mobile app development and enhancements to the Live Editor.
- MATLAB R2021a: This version included support for GPUs with the Ampere architecture and improved performance for deep learning applications, two new features for working with GPUs. It additionally included new capabilities for information examination, control frameworks, and code age.
